Patriots & Peacemakers: Arab Americans in Service to Our Country

Through Dec.15, 2012
Jacksonville Public Library
303 N. Laura St.
Jacksonville, Florida 32202

Arab Americans have been an integral part of the United States of America since its inception, contributing to our society in myriad ways, including public service. Patriots & Peacemakers: Arab Americans in Service to Our Country tells true stories of heroism and self-sacrifice that affirm the important role Arab Americans have played in our country throughout its history.

Patriots & Peacemakers highlights three specific areas of service: the U.S. Armed Forces, diplomatic service and the Peace Corps. Personal narratives highlight Arab American men and women of different national and religious backgrounds. The exhibition, created by the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, also encourages visitors to consider how commitment to service impacts them in their daily lives.

Local Patriots: Arab American Heroes of Jacksonville

The national Patriots & Peacemakers exhibition will be complemented by a collection of photos, stories, and items identifying local heroes from the Arab American community in greater Jacksonville who have served over the decades in various branches of the military. The local display will pay tribute to veterans and service members who have dedicated time and talent to defending the United States since World War I, and will include recognition of dozens of recipients of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and other symbols of wartime valor.

The local exhibition and Opening Reception are projects of the Jacksonville Host Committee which has worked tirelessly since 2010 to welcome the exhibit to Jacksonville. Special thanks to members of theRamallah American Club of Jacksonville and the Salaam Club of Jacksonville who provided leadership, energy and planning towards the success of the exhibition.
