NEW! Make-a-Tile Workshop @ Motawi Tileworks Shop for Motawi tiles and more in the Museum Store HERE. Since 1992, the passionate artisans of Motawi Tileworks have handcrafted art tile in their Ann Arbor, Michigan studio. These distinctive pieces are known for their rich glazes and uniquely American designs, inspired by nature, art and architecture. Inspired by her love of art and tile making, Egyptian American Nawal Motawi established Motawi Tileworks in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1992. The business has expanded greatly from its origins in a garage rented from Nawal’s parents. This exhibit is a retrospective of the Motawi Tileworks collection, inspirations and techniques. This exhibition showcases Motawi tile as both art and architectural decor, sheds light on the tile making process, and connect contemporary work and the Arab World tradition of tile making. |
