The 17th annual Concert of Colors opens with this fascinating panel discussion Freedom Songs: Music that Empowers and Breaks Down Barriers. 

Panelists include ethnomusicologist Mark Stone (right) of Oakland University and singer/songwriters Joe Reilly, Rev. Robert B. Jones and Ismael Duran. 

This previously invitation-only fee-based event is now free and open to all. It begins at 2 p.m. in the Music Box at the Max M. Fisher Music Center, 3711 Woodward in downtown Detroit. No advance registration is necessary.
