Product Details for Wood Mosaic Backgammon from Damascus, Syria

Backgammon is the oldest known game in history and originated in Mesopotamia, the Royal Game of Ur, and can be traced as far back as 3000 BC.  It was played typically on wood and used stones as markers and dice made of bone, stone, pottery or wood.  Played by two players, backgammon was tradtionally played by aristocracy of the ancient civilizations.

Each move is done after the roll of the dice. The winning player defeats his/her opponent by removing all their opponents pieces from the board.  A simple game to learn but strategy for the options to move pieces and anticipate your opponents next move is the real challenge.  Flip the set over and try your hand at checkers too, using the same game pieces.
