Product Details for Greeting Card - Eid al-Salib by Helen Zughaib
This notecard reproduces the original art of noted Arab American Artist Helen Zughaib. Eid al-Salib (Feast of the Cross). The story behind the painting: After converting to Christianity, Saint Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine, went on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem to search for the cross used in the Crucifixion. She stationed groups of believers on all of the hilltops between Constantinople & Jerusalem. When she found the Cross, she lit a bonfire as a signal which was then passed to Constantine with bonfires on all the hills. On the night of the feast in Lebanon, huge bonfires illuminate the villages as far as the eye can see. Helen Zughaib, a painter living & working in Washington, D.C. since 1985, was educated at Syracuse University & Northeast London Polytechnic School of Art. She uses gouache & ink on board and uses color & pattern to define a new sense of space & perspective.
