La Chispa & Company in Concert

The excitement, flair and color of one of the world’s great art forms will be on display Saturday, September 13 at the Arab American National Museum when La Chispa & Company showcases acclaimed Flamenco performers from Detroit, San Antonio, Mexico, Morocco, and Spain, including dancer Valeria Montes “La Chispa” (The Spark) and special guest artist Chayito Champion.

Valeria Montes “La Chispa” (at right) has emerged as the most talked-about Flamenco performer in metro Detroit. The Detroit Free Press has called her performances "mesmerizing" and the Metro Times declaring that she is "beauty in motion." Guitarist Daniel "El Nopalito" Parisen trained in Spain and the San Francisco Bay area before returning to Detroit to become the main guitarist for the company. La Chispa & Company have performed at Detroit’s premiere venues including the Detroit Opera House, Fox Theatre and Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts and recently finished their first Mexican tour.

Special guest artist singer Chayito Champion was born into family of Flamenco artists in San Antonio, Texas. Champion has captivated her audiences worldwide, performing at venues such as Lincoln Center with famous Flamenco artists including Jose Greco Sr., Nana Lorca, Teo Morca, Luis Montero, Chuni Amaya, Andrea Del Conte and Pilar Rioja.

This special afternoon performance begins at 4:30 p.m. in the AANM Auditorium. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors.
