Artifact Spotlight: Boxing Gloves

When amateur champion boxer Tarick Salmaci of Dearborn, Michigan made his professional debut at the Palace of Auburn Hills on August 25, 1992, these were the gloves he wore. Salmaci, aka The Arabian Prince, TKO’d his opponent Bernard Wright that night. He went on to become the North American Super Middleweight Champion in 1997 and retired in 2001 after rising to become the world's 4th rated contender. You can see these red and white Cleto Reyes gloves in the locker room section of the AANM’s Living In America exhibit. Read about donating artifacts to the AANM HERE.
