Navajo Inspired Weaving

September 23: Navajo Inspired Weavings
Kids will learn about the centuries-old tradition of Navajo weaving in the Southwestern United States and learn to make a small version of their own using a cardboard loom.

Curlicue Critters

September 30: Curlicue Critters
Paper arts are nearly as old as the invention of paper (2nd century B.C.E. in China). From ancient ceremonial Japanese origami (6th century C.E.) and the geometric paper crafts Arab-Muslims brought to Spain (11th century C.E.) to the animal scenes we will be during this session, paper crafts have been and continue to be an important part of humanity’s artistic heritage.

Bean Leaf

October 7: Bean Leaves
Get into the fall spirit by making mosaic-style leaves out of hearty fall foods – legumes! We’ll be using staple beans from around the world to mimic the local foliage of oaks and maples.

Pumpkin Halloween Decoration

October 14: Pumpkin Halloween Decorations
Get pumped for Halloween with these festive pumpkin decorations. Before pumpkin Jack O’Lanterns became symbols of Halloween, people carved faces into turnips.
