2010 Arab Film Festival Submissions

The Arab American National Museum (AANM) in Dearborn, Michigan, is currently accepting film submissions for its 6th Annual Arab Film Festival, scheduled for December 3-5, 2010.

The AANM’s Arab Film Festival seeks to present to the public films that offer alternative representations of Arab life; increase public exposure of Arab and Arab American filmmakers; and provide a forum for the discussion of questions raised by Festival films.

All Festival films are shown in the AANM’s 156-seat Auditorium; more than 400 people attend annually.

In accordance with the Arab Film Festival’s mission statement, the Festival seeks films of the highest quality that depict the lives of Arabs and/or Arab Americans, as well as films on any topic directed by Arab or Arab American filmmakers.

Films must have been released in the last three years (no earlier than 2007). Films that have already been presented at the AANM are not eligible for consideration.

Films in languages other than English may be submitted; however, such films must include English subtitles.

Films submitted must be in standard DVD format (no Blu-ray or VHS) and either PLS or NTCS format.

We also ask permission to place submitted screening copies in the AANM Library & Resource Center for non-commercial use. (Donation is not required for film to be considered for inclusion in the Festival.)

Submission Procedure

Individual directors may submit up to 10 (ten) films.

Deadline for consideration is 5 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2010. All films received after this date must be postmarked on or before July 23, 2010.

Each entry must be accompanied by the following information:

  • Name of film and U.S. (or other) release date
  • Name of director and contact information including email and cell phone

Selection Procedure and Liability

Submitted films will be reviewed by a panel of AANM employees and members of the metro Detroit Arab American and film communities. Directors of selected films will be contacted by Museum staff to negotiate fees and explore possible participation in a post-screening panel discussion.

Every precaution will be taken by the AANM to assure protection of the work, making sure that films are not damaged, copied, illegally distributed, etc., and either placed in the AANM’s Library & Resource Center or returned to the director if the film is not selected for inclusion in the Festival. However, please note that the Arab American National Museum and its staff are not responsible for the loss or damage of screening copies of submitted films.
